傳說中國古代有一種鵬鳥，是一種名叫鯤（kun）的大魚變成的。它的背長達幾千裏。

每年六月，它都要飛往南海的天池，它把翅膀一拍，天池的水就被擊起三千里的浪花。它乘着旋風，一下子能飛越九萬里的高空。

一些小鳥很不理解地問它：你爲什麼要飛到九萬里以外的天邊呢？

後來，人們就根據這個故事，編了一句成語鵬程萬里，用來比喻前程非常遠大。

Riding the whirlwind, it can fly over 90,000 miles in the sky in one flight.

Some small birds asked it uncomprehendingly: Why did you fly to the horizon 90,000 miles away?

Later, based on this story, people compiled an idiom “Peng Cheng Wan Li”. which was used as a metaphor for a very promising future.
